Westinghouse Academy’s Head Coach Donte Green was named PIAA Class 2A Coach of the Year, in the Pennsylvania Writer’s Poll. Coach Green led the Pittsburgh City Champs to the Class 2A State Finals and a season record of 14-1. The team went further than any other City team has in the past 25 years. Coach Green took the helm at Westinghouse only four years ago, since then he has complied an impressive 39-7 record, but what is even more impressive is that he has taken a team of 20 players and transformed it into a family of 55 scholar athletes, who perform in and out of the classroom. Coach Green has built his team on discipline, hard work, performance in the community, a dress code and set a high standard for behavior, on and off the field.

On the field his team has taken on his tough no nonsense attitude, the defense is smothering, while his offense is a juggernaut, that can grind out a drive or strike quickly from anywhere on the field. Off the field they also take on Coach Green’s sense of community.

After the State Championship game Coach Green expressed how proud he was of his players and his coaches, “These young men by no means have to hang their heads or feel bad. No need to hang their head, they have integrity. This is a blip in time, 20 or 30 years for now will be talking about this at their wedding, talking about their successes,” he added.
