USC, Corona del Mar to hold football passing tournaments this week

High school football’s summer passing season will begin to deliver significant results this week.

Corona del Mar and USC are hosting several top Orange County teams for 7-on-7 passing competitions on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

The Sea Kings’ inaugural Battle at the Bay starts Friday at 4 p.m. with Corona del Mar, Aliso Niguel, Cypress, Dana Hills, Foothill, La Habra, San Clemente and Tesoro in the tournament.

The championship is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.

USC’s Trojan Classic 7-on-7 Tournament begins Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

The expected entries are: Los Alamitos, Mater Dei, Santa Margarita, Calabasas, Chaminade, Inglewood, Lincoln, Mater Dei Catholic of San Diego, Oaks Christian, Rancho Cucamonga, Serra and Sierra Canyon.

USC holds commitments from Los Alamitos quarterback Malachi Nelson and wide receiver Makai Lemon.
