Tennessee High School football player drowns

According to school officials, a Tennessee high school football player has died.

We’re told Micah Montgomery, a junior at Tennessee High drowned on Sunday at South Holston Lake.

News 5 spoke with Tennessee High School Football’s Coach, Matt Chandler.

“We are totally in shock,” he said. “We as a coaching staff and team are devastated. Micah was such a beloved member of our team. His smile will be something we remember forever.”

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s office says a person is dead after drowning on South Holston Lake.

Officers were called to the 421 bridge at around 4:00p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

A search was performed and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team recovered the body of a male from the water.

There is no further information to release at this time. The identity of the person who died is not being released pending notification of kin.
