Roman Willets Named Alabama Swimming and Diving Assistant Coach

Roman Willets has joined the Alabama swimming and jumping staff as an associate mentor, Margo Geer, the Crimson Tide’s lead trainer, reported Wednesday.

Willets joins Alabama in the wake of expenditure the 2020-21 season on the University of California men’s staff, where he helped lead the Golden Bears to a second place finish at the 2021 NCAA Championships and the Pac-12 Championship.

“We are excited to invite Roman Willets to the Alabama family. He brings an abundance of information, devotion and enthusiasm for the game, and we anticipate adding his energy to our program. The staff and I are amped up for the steps our group has made during this past university season and into the mid year and we are certain that welcoming Roman on board will assist with pushing the group higher than ever.”

“I’m amazingly thankful to Margo Geer and the organization for the chance to join the training staff in Tuscaloosa. The University of Alabama swimming and plunging program has kept on adding to its rich history at the SEC, NCAA and worldwide level as of late. I’m so regarded to have the chance to work with the group as they gather that speed both all through the pool.”

Willets joins partner lead trainers Ozzie Quevedo and James Barber, plunging mentor Jesse Lyman and right hand mentor Reed Fujan on Geer’s first Crimson Tide staff.

Additionally filled in as a marathon volunteer right hand mentor at the University of San Francisco (2019-20), where he helped the Dons develop the program’s dryland and in-water preparing program

Willets was the Director of Competitive Swimming for the Bay Club Company (2015-18), where he drove the improvement of a six-site, 400 or more swimmer age bunch program all through the Bay Area

Gone through two years (2014-15) working with Bob Bowman and Erik Posegay at North Baltimore Aquatic Club, where he helped train Olympians Michael Phelps and Alison Schmitt just as NBAC’s High Performance bunch

Worked with Keenan Robinson, the U.S. Public Team Director of Sports Medicine and Science, while with NBAC, assisting carry out with maturing gathering and secondary school strength and molding programs

An All-American for the University of Michigan (2010-13), Willets filled in as group skipper of the Wolverines’ 2013 Big Ten and NCAA Championship crew, swimming for Mike Bottom

The Whitehouse, Ohio, local moved on from Michigan in 2014 with a four year certification in optional instruction and running after a graduate degree in kinesiology
