Randleman wins 2A championship on White's no-hitter

Randleman pitcher Ryan White threw a no-hitter as the Tigers claimed the NCHSAA 2A State Championship with a 4-0 win over R-S Central in Game 3 at Burlington Athletic Stadium on Saturday.

White went the full seven innings for the Tigers (19-2, 12-0 PAC 7 2A), allowing no runs on no hits and two walks with 11 strikeouts. It was the second no-hitter of the weekend, following Reagan pitcher Carter Boyd’s no-hitter in Game 1 of the 4A series.

Hayden Wheeler was saddled with the loss for the Hilltoppers (17-4, 11-1 Southwestern 2A), allowing four runs on three hits with five strikeouts in two and one-third innings. Relief pitcher Kael Snethen kept R-S Central in the game with a solid outing, allowing no runs on three hits with two strikeouts in three and two-thirds innings.

Neither team could get a hit in the first two and a half innings, but Randleman finally broke the deadlock in the bottom of third with a big four-run inning. Kaden Ethier delivered the game’s first hit with a single up the middle. Owen Strickland walked and Trey Way singled to load the bases for Hunter Atkins, who drove in two runs with a base hit to left-center to open the scoring. Brooks Brannon followed with a double to bring in two more and make it 4-0.

Prior to the series, Randleman’s Andrew Cox and R-S Central’s Micajah Wall received the NCHSAA’s Sportsmanship Award for their respective teams.
