A long-running charity golf scramble hit the links at Oglebay on Friday.

The Pat Clutter Scholarship and Memorial Golf Scramble teed off at the Crispin Center Golf Course.

Clutter was a teacher, broadcaster and community leader in Wheeling. He died of cancer in 1997.

The money raised from this event goes to scholarships for Wheeling Park High School seniors who will go into communications in college.

“This year, we were able to give away $6,000,” Event Chairperson Dave Flatley said. “We picked three students and each one of the students got $2,000. It’s all based on communications. So, whether you’re in back of a camera, in front of a camera, behind a radio station microphone – everybody that’s going to go into communications we’re giving them the seed money to continue on in their education in that particular field.”

The event was a sold out, with 37 teams taking part.
