Orange Lutheran’s girls water polo team capped an undefeated season Saturday while claiming yet another championship.

Goalie Kyla Pranajaya made 17 saves and Samantha Kim and Sofia Umeda each scored three goals as the Lancers defeated Mater Dei 8-4 in the CIF Southern California Regional Division I final at Mt. SAC.

The Lancers finished the season 31-0.

They became the first Orange County team since Laguna Beach in 2016-17 to finish undefeated.

“We left an exclamation mark,” said Orange Lutheran coach Brenda Villa, whose team earlier won a second consecutive CIF-SS Open Division title, the Trinity League and three regular-season tournaments.

“By winning regionals, we did something we didn’t do last year so we are happy to finish the season strong.”

Orange Lutheran scored four goals in the third period to take control against Mater Dei, which it defeated for the fourth time.

Umeda scored the go-ahead strike on a penalty shot early in the third that Mater Dei’s bench protested. After the Lancers’ Jailynn Robinson earned the penalty shot going for a rebound off a counterattack shot, the Monarchs received a red card.

Orange Lutheran took a 4-3 lead on the penalty and added three more goals to take a 7-3 lead into the fourth.

Allison Cohen and Michelle Urkov each finished with two assists for the Lancers and combined for seven steals.

Sophia Bunnell made 14 saves to lead Mater Dei.

In Division II:

San Clemente 14, Clairemont of San Diego 9: Phoebe DeMoss scored four goals and Kylin Barnes, Hazel Thrash, Emmi Franklin and Talyn Pelkey each had two to lead the Tritons (24-8) to their second regional title.

Macey Punak added four assists.

San Clemente, a Division 1 semifinalist in CIF-SS, didn’t automatically quality for the regional but accepted an invitation after Division 1 champion Corona del Mar and Division 1 runner-up JSerra declined.

“The girls deserved it,” Tritons coach Logan Powell said of accepting the bid.
