Newport Harbor and Harvard-Westlake are the top two seeds for this weekend’s South Coast Tournament, one of the most competitive early-season events in boys water polo.

The 32-team tournament runs Thursday through Saturday at Newport Harbor, Corona del Mar, Edison and Costa Mesa high schools. The championship match is Saturday at Newport Harbor at 4:05 p.m.

Top-seeded Newport Harbor edged No. 2 Harvard-Westlake 12-11 last weekend in a nonleague game.

Defending champion Mater Dei, Loyola and Sacred Heart Prep of Atherton are seeded third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Los Alamitos, Huntington Beach and Cathedral Catholic of San Diego round out the top seeds.

Other county top-10 teams in the tournament include Orange Lutheran, Foothill, Corona del Mar, Laguna Beach and Santa Margarita.
