Newport Harbor quarterback Jaden O’Neal, who earned first-team All-Sunset League honors last season, has enrolled at Narbonne of Harbor City, the sophomore confirmed Monday.

Last season, O’Neal (6-3, 215) completed 61 percent of his passes for 2,475 yards and 27 TDs to help the Sailors finish 5-6.

Newport Harbor snapped a 10-game losing streak against rival Corona del Mar en route to a third-place finish in league. The Sailors lost to Trabuco Hills 24-21 in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs.

O’Neal emerged in the offseason as one of Orange County’s hottest Class of 2026 recruits. He has been offered by Miami, Florida State, Oklahoma, Arizona and Washington among others.

O’Neal’s high school career began at Los Alamitos. In limited playing time as a freshman, he showed potential as the backup to Malachi Nelson.

It’s been an offseason of change at Newport Harbor. Matt Burns took the coaching reins after Peter Lofthouse left for El Toro.

ONeal’s departure from Newport Harbor will put the spotlight on quarterbacks Bode Stefano, a junior, and Mater Dei transfer Cole Leinart, a sophomore.

Narbonne finished 4-7 last season and lost to Birmingham in the first round of the Open Division playoffs in the L.A. City Section.

O’Neal could face Los Alamitos early next season. Narbonne and Los Alamitos have agreed to play a nonleague game in 2024, Gauchos coach Malcolm Manuel confirmed. “We have a young team,” Manuel said. “I’m sure they will be pretty good.”
