Mitchell's Masy Mock, Chamberlain's Cameron Caldwell earn top-5 finishes at SDGA Sanford Golf Series stop

The opening round of competition was held at Dakota Dunes Country Club in North Sioux City, followed by Tuesday’s play in Yankton.

Masy Mock, a recent Mitchell High School graduate, finished in fourth place in the girls college prep division with rounds of 84 and 88 for a total of 172. Sioux Falls’ Emily Kolb, who will be a senior next school year, won the event with rounds of 82 and 83 for a 36-hole total of 165. Shannon McCormick (84-84—168) and Lauren Sutcliffe (78-92—170), both of Sioux Falls, were second and third.

Incoming MHS sophomore Quinn Dannenbring was eighth in the field with a score of 181 after rounds of 86 and 95.

The fourth-place finish for Mock kept her in the season-long points lead among girls in the series. After four tournaments, she has 340 points, powered by victories earlier this season at Brookings, Brandon and Sioux Falls. McCormick is second with 260 points, followed by Kolb and Sutcliffe tied for third with 150 points.

The boys division was won by Watertown’s Jake Olson, who shot rounds of 73 and 77 to finish at 6-over-par for the tournament. In second place was Jackson Eggebraaten, of Sioux Falls, who was in at 12-over-par with rounds of 82 and 74.

Chamberlain’s Cameron Caldwell, a 2021 high school graduate, fired rounds of 79 and 78 to finish at 13-over-par and in a tie for third place at the two-day event. He was tied for the week with Harrisburg’s Will Allen and Orange City, Iowa’s Davis Korver.

Mitchell High School incoming senior Macon Larson finished with rounds of 87 and 78 to take home a 17th place finish in the field of 44. Brody Boltjes, of Platte, finished tied for 29th in the event (87-87).

The SDGA Sanford Golf Series continues on July 12-13 in Rapid City, with a two-day event played at Meadowbrook Golf Club and Arrowhead Golf Club. The one-day championship event will be contested at The Country Club of Sioux Falls on July 19.

A number of regional youth golfers will also be in action Monday, July 12 at the SDGA Junior Tour stop at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.
