Meet PennLive’s 2021 high school baseball all-star team

It was another banner baseball season for the Mid-Penn Conference with a trio of programs landing in the PIAA semifinals. One squad, 2019 5A champion Red Land, even made a return trip to the state championship round.

Now it’s time to celebrate some of the area’s top players with PennLive’s Baseball All-Star team. Teams, including the “Next 9” futures team for top underclassmen, are comprised of players from the MPC. We start with PennLive’s Player of the Year.

Ask anyone about Red Land’s undeniable MVP this season and even the players themselves would agree. Peifer, who recently committed to the University of Delaware, became a pitcher out of necessity when the Patriots were forced to press on without lefty Cole Wagner on the mound. Well, Peifer, already among the MPC’s top catchers, quickly became the staff ace and capped his season with a sterling 8-2 mark with 80 strikeouts and a 2.11 ERA.

Against all the top competition, including Bethel Park in the PIAA 5A finale, the righty fanned 80 over 69 2/3 innings, allowing just 16 walks. His no-hitter vs. Archbishop Wood propelled the Patriots to the semifinal round. Also hitting clean-up, Peifer hit .391 and finished his stat line with four doubles and 27 RBIs.
