Los Amigos baseball coach Aaron Pines dies of cancer

Los Amigos baseball coach Aaron Pines died of cancer Friday. He was 34.

Pines continued to coach the Los Amigos team while undergoing cancer treatments at City of Hope.

He is survived by his wife Deriah.

Los Amigos last season won the Garden Grove League championship with a 12-3 record. The Lobos lost in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 7 playoffs to finish with a 23-5 overall record.

His father Myron Pines was an assistant coach for his son at Los Amigos during the 2022 season. Myron Pines was the coach at Santiago for many years.

Aaron’s brother Greg Pines is the athletic director at Rancho Alamitos, where Greg was the baseball coach in recent years, including coaching against Aaron’s Los Amigos teams.

Aaron Pines also was a math teacher at Edison High School.
