John Glenn golf team opens up new season with third place at Circle K Invitational

A new high school golf season kicked off Thursday with several local teams taking part in the Circle K Invitational at Eaglesticks Golf Course on Thursday.

Marietta A claimed the team title in the 20 team event, followed by Dover (308), John Glenn (310), Wheeling Park (317), and West Holmes (319) to complete the top five team scores. Other local teams in action included Barnesville (329) in seventh place, and Cambridge 14th (365).

Jack Porter of West Muskingum took medalist honors with round of 64, while the All-Tournament team consisted of Barnesville’s Carter Wells (71), Connor Larmer (68), Charle Kilpatirck (70), Carter Beague (72), Gavin Goodrich (73) and Laith Hamid (73).

Owen Van Fossen shot 75 to lead the Muskies, along with Noah Dever (77) Adam Johnson (79), Braden Rice (79), Jackson Zanders (93) and JT Orecchio (96).

Wells paced the ‘Rocks’ scoring, followed by Dryden Bauman (78), Jude Hannahs (87), Breanna Flood (93), Colton Hines (95) and Jeremy Hunkler (102).

Adam Smith shot 84 to lead the Bobcats opening day performance, followed by Jackson Reed (87), Bradyn Gregg (96), Aidan Castello (98) and Jax VanDyne (112).

Host Meadowbrook High opened up the new golf season by taking runner-up in a five-team match on Thursday at Salt Fork Golf Course.

Fort Frye took first place with 385, followed by the Colts at 393, New Lexington (444), Conotton Valley (no score; 3 players), River View (no score; 3 players).

Dawson Layton captured medals honors with an 83 to lead the Cadets effort, along with Brandon Dye 98, Jackson Lowe 101, Kelson McCurdy 103, Braiden Allen 106, and Emmitt Duskey 121.

Pacing the Colts’ opening day performance was Cole Eltringham with 88, followed by Owen Dennis 97, Steven Grafton 10l, Ben Coss 107, Damon Baier 112 and Easton Eibel 113.
