Iowa High School Basketball set to adopt the Shot Clock for 2022-2023

Rumors of Iowa High School Basketball adopting the shot clock were not exaggerated.

A source with knowledge of the proceedings confirms to KHQA that the IHSAA approved the implementation of a thirty-five second shot clock for the 2022-2023 season during its Friday meeting.

The prevailing wisdom within the room, I am told, was that it was finally “time to move the game forward.” Shot clock basketball will serve to better align high school play with the college game as well as livening the level of play. It will, however, create the challenge of finding and training competent shot clock operators as well as creating an additional expense for programs in obtaining the actual equipment itself.

The IHSAA has given itself a full year to work out the transition, so expect greater detail as to the nuts and bolts of this hardwood evolution in the coming weeks.
