Harvard-Westlake’s Alyssa Thompson spearheads Daily News All-Area girls soccer team

Alyssa Thompson is simply the best, and the scary part is she’s only getting better.

The super sophomore tallied 48 goals and 14 assists in 17 matches to anchor Harvard-Westlake to an undefeated season (19-0). Thompson was the catalyst for the Wolverines’ CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship and SoCal Regional Division I title.

Her efforts were also recognized on a national level. Thompson was named the 2020-21 Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year. Thompson is only the second sophomore to receive the honor for girls soccer, and only the eighth sophomore to be honored in the program’s history.

Thompson is a star player on the United States Women’s Under-18 National Team, which could be the reason why her high school soccer career could be shortened in the next two years, with national team responsibilities taking priority.
