Girls basketball roundup: Mater Dei leads four Trinity League teams into CIF semifinals

Duke-bound forward Jenessa Cotton had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead Mater Dei to a 65-48 victory against visiting Orangewood Academy on Wednesday and advance the Monarchs to the semifinals of the CIF-SS Open Division playoffs.

Mater Dei (24-6), ranked No. 1 in Orange County, will play at Sierra Canyon in the semifinals on Saturday. The top-seeded Trailblazers defeated Sage Hill in 74-52 in another pool-play game.

Freshman Vivian Grenald had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Orangewood Academy.

In Division 1:

Orange Lutheran 60, Oxnard 47: Princess Cassell scored 27 points to lead the reigning champion Lancers into the semifinals at top-seeded Brentwood on Saturday.

Division 2A:

Santa Margarita 47, Burroughs of Burbank 33: Lei-Line Romain had 14 points to help the Eagles reach the semifinals. They will play host to Lakewood on Saturday.

Division 3A:

JSerra 47, Oakwood 37: Freshman point guard Rosie Santos tallied 11 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and five assists to lead the top-seeded Lions into Saturday’s semifinals against visiting Dana Hills.

St. Margaret’s 53, San Jacinto 32: Harper Gideons scored 21 points to pace Tartans, who play at St. Monica Prep in the semifinals Saturday.

Division 4AA:

Canyon 56, Marshall 49: Sofi Majidi sank seven 3-pointers en route to 21 points to help the Comanches reach Saturday’s semifinals at Newbury Park. Justine Prajitno added 20 points for Canyon.
