Football recruiting: Former Pittsburg star Jaden Rashada chooses Arizona State

Jaden Rashada has found a landing spot.

The former Pittsburg High quarterback took to Twitter on Wednesday morning to announce that he will be attending Arizona State, the school where his father, Harlen, played defensive back in the 1990s.

Arizona State announced Rashada’s signing later in the day.

“Ready to write his own legacy,” the program wrote on its Twitter account.

Wednesday marked the first day that recruits were allowed to put pen to paper during the traditional signing period.

Rashada, a five-star prospect, had signed a letter of intent with the University of Florida during the early period in December. But when a reported $13.5 million Name, Image and Likeness deal fell apart with an independent Florida fundraising arm, Gator Collective, Rashada requested and was granted a release from the letter of intent.

Back on the open market, he made an unofficial visit to Arizona State two weekends ago and reportedly visited TCU last weekend.

In his Twitter post, Rashada called Arizona State his “childhood dream school” and “a place where I’m happy.”

He also said Arizona State has a head coach who “has always had my back!”

When new Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham was the offensive coordinator at Oregon, he tried to lure Rashada to Eugene.

It is not yet known how much Rashada’s NIL deal will be with Arizona State. But it seems unlikely that it will approach the $13.5 million over four years he was reportedly going to receive at Florida or the $9-plus million he was reportedly in line to collect at the University of Miami, a figure Rashada denied.

Rashada made headlines last summer when he orally committed to Miami, then was back in the headlines in November when he flipped to Florida.

Tennyson star signs with UW

Tennyson wide receiver Taeshaun Lyons made his commitment to the University of Washington official on Wednesday, signing a letter of intent. The four-star player orally committed to the school in December at an announcement ceremony at Tennyson, choosing Washington over Notre Dame, Oregon and Miami. Lyons is joining a Washington class that includes Pittsburg receiver Rashid Williams, who signed in December.
