Ex-Vacaville High, Solano College star Kayla Somonton to play volleyball for Simpson University – Times-Herald

Kayla Somontan of Solano Community College has signed her intention to play volleyball at Simpson College in Redding.

Vacaville High School graduates were selected for the First Team All Conference as setters for their first season at Solano College in 2019. She was also a 3.5 GPA all-academic student athlete in both 2019 and 2020. She holds an associate degree from Liberal Arts Solano to Simpson’s Biology major.

“Keira was one of our first setters,” said Dara Williams, head volleyball coach at Solano. “She performed the offense and made all the decisions about who to set, who was playing a good match, and who would clear the ball for us. As a setter, she was our top He was also one of the server and defense players. I would like to put up with her top 5 setters who have been coaching at Solano College for 18 years. ”

At the Bay Valley Conference, Somontan led the team with 316 assists, averaging 8.1 per set. She excavated 64, 155 serves and 23 ace. Throughout the season, she played 89 sets and led the team with 704 assists. She added 154 excavations and served 368 times with 41 aces. As a setter she contributed 35 kills with a .418 hit rate.

“She was very sneaky and smart, and decided to dump her over the net and become an additional offensive weapon for us,” Williams said. “It’s great to have such a defensive setter on the court. She read the batter very well and quickly predicted attacks and dumps from the enemy. Keira would be terribly missed. She would be terribly missed. You have won this next step and the next stage in her life. ”
