Dennis Shaw who has served as an assistant coach and mentor to the Chester High School football team is now the new head coach of the Clippers. Coach Shaw has long earned the respect of his players, fellow coaches and the community for his hard work and dedication to the Clipper players while in school and upon graduation. The Clippers have seen a resurgence in the program over the last 3 seasons including winning the programs first PIAA playoff game last year with an 18-15 win over Marple Township. Coach Dennis returns all league rising sophomore QB Jalen Harris to lead a potent offense, so the cup isn’t bare. Dennis says “The process for applying & being awarded the HC position was pretty smooth. The program remained intact because that is what we built under Coach Bell. It’s been busy with recruitment for guys, but we have been working diligently to stay relevant since the end of last season. He stated “there was never any doubt in my mind that I would be the guy. So, we just kept running the ship the same way we have been”.

With regards to the program coming off their first PIAA playoff win Coach Dennis says “We have and will continue to learn from last season, while we won our first playoff game in school history, we actually feel that we underachieved. The coaches & players are eager to get back on the field and pursue our maximum potential as a team. I am extremely elated to have the opportunity to lead the ship and continue to be a pivotal piece in the restoring of our football program.”

When mentioning Chester High sports most automatically think of their historical basketball program and the great players that have come through their program. Times have changed as the last 3-4 years the football program has captured the local’s attention and support. Coach Dennis states “I believe it’s safe to say we are a football school now. The community has adopted that mindset as well and have rallied behind us. We still support our boys in basketball and understand that it’s not a competition. Hopefully we get to the point where both programs are flourishing equally at the same time.” The 2023 season is just 7 months away and Dennis says “you can expect for the Clippers to continue to excel. We are here to stay. We understand that we have a long way to go as a program, we will not undervalue the progress we made. This upcoming season expect for us to make even more noise on a statewide platform.”
