Santa Margarita defensive lineman Max Amasio has returned to St. John Bosco, his former school, the football standout confirmed Thursday.

Amasio, a first-team All-Trinity League selection at St. John Bosco last season, transferred to Santa Margarita in early January and was expected to bolster the Eagles’ defense.

Last season, Amasio (5-11, 255) tallied a team-high 14 sacks and added 61 tackles to help the Braves win the Trinity League title and finish as the CIF-SS Division 1 runner-up to Mater Dei.

Amasio delivered one of his best performances in a 28-0 win against Mater Dei in league.

He was selected defensive player of the year for the regular season by the Trinity League Football Podcast.

Santa Margarita’s defense allowed a league-high 31.8 points per game last season en route to a 5-6 record. In the offseason, the Eagles hired Steve Fifita as defensive coordinator and Kelly Talavou as defensive line coach.
