On Friday night I had the pleasure of covering Hempfield at Manheim Township. It was an incredible game. Hempfield was leading 3-0 at the half then scored on the last play of the half on a long touchdown pass. Then opened the 2nd half with the opening kickoff for a touchdown. The game was 17-0 for Hempfield, but all of a sudden Hayden Johnson of Manheim Township caught fire and scored 2 touchdowns, but their missed a field goal to lose 17-14. Exciting game and both teams are excellent.

Player of the week: Brycen Arnold of Manheim Central. Arnold was a true bell cow for Central when he rushed for 205 yards in the win over rival Warwick. Arnold carried the team all night along with Zac Hahn. Manheim Central improved to 5-0 on the year.

Coach of the week: Keith Stokes of Elizabethtown. Elizabethtown is 5-0 on the year after winning a combined 6 games the last two years combined. Elizabethtown won a barn burner 46-42. Stokes has Elizabethtown rolling this year. Great effort by the 1st year head coach.

Team of the week: Hamburg. Hamburg beat Kutztown 35-7 to improve to 5-0 on the year. They have a legit shot at winning the section 5 title. Hamburg plays Lancaster Catholic this week in a match up of 2 5-0 teams. Should be a great game. The winner will be a front runner in the section.

Play of the week: Cover 2. Cover 2 is a staple of a lot defenses. Hempfield ran a lot of cover 2 and cover 4 to make Manheim Township drive the field and not give up the big play. The effort worked because they were able to slow Hayden Johnson and his good wide receivers down.

Football has 4 downs, so here  are 4 thoughts from what I saw, watched, and heard this week:

Thoughts on York-Adams Football sections after 5 weeks and 2 weeks after section play began.

Division 1- Central York, York High and Dallastown are all 2-0 in the league. I think that York High vs. Central York is on a collision course for the division title when they play week 10, but Dallastown can have a lot to say for the Division title when they play Central York and York High coming up.

Division 2-New Oxford and Kennard-Dale are both 2-0 in Division play. The winner of this will be the front runner for the division title. Dover is 1-1 in the Division, so they still have a shot if they can knock off Kennard-Dale because they already lost to New Oxford.

Division 3- Delone Catholic is 2-0 and York Catholic is 1-0 on the year in the division. Both seem to be on a collision course to play for the division title when they face off. Bitter rivals face off this upcoming Friday night.
