On Friday night I went to see the game of the year. A 35-32 win by Solanco over Elizabethtown. I came away very impressed by both teams. Solanco Coach Anthony Cox said, “I expect to see them in the playoffs”. Both teams should make the playoffs and a rematch is not out of the question. The game was back and forth all night and was not over until the last play of the night when Elizabethtown’s last pass went incomplete near the goal line. Great effort by both teams. I was super impressed by both team’s efforts.

Player of the week part 1: Jahiem White of York High. In a 66-49 win, York High prevailed with the win. White was outstanding. He rushed for 417 yards, 6 touchdowns, was 1-1 passing, and had an interception that he returned for a Touchdown. What a night for Jahiem White.

Player of the week part 2: Andre Weidman of Ephrata. In a 42-28 win over Fleetwood Weidman was outstanding. He rushed for 382 yards, and 2 touchdowns. He also became Ephrata’s all time leading rusher when he passed Eric Frees with 2710 career yards rushing. He still has 3 games left in regular season to add to it.

Coach of the week: George Eager of Hempfield. Huge win for Hempfield Friday Night when they beat Wilson 20-16. Wilson had beaten Hempfield 16 straight times, so this is the 1st win for Hempfield since 2006 against Wilson. Again the 1st time they beat Wilson since 2006. Impressive effort for Hempfield, as they are now in the drivers seat in the Section 1 race of the LL. Next up is undefeated Exeter.

********* I be at Hempfield Friday night when Exeter visits.

Team of the week: New Oxford. Jason Warner head coach of New Oxford has done a nice job turning around the New Oxford program. They currently sit at 6-1 on the year and are in the drivers seat of winning the Division 2 title of the YAIAA. Great job by Warner and New Oxford.

Play of the week: Bootleg. Bootleg is a great play off of a play action. It works very well when you can fake the run and then have the line and running back fake the action then throw the ball off the fake. On Friday night I came away very impressed with Elizabethtown’s offense. They did a ton of different passing concepts, but one of the passing concepts that stood out was bootleg. Great job by Coach Stokes and his staff.

Throwing on the Move: Rollouts and Naked Bootlegs in the Auburn Offense - College and Magnolia

Football has 4 downs, so here  are 4 thoughts from what I saw, watched, and heard this week:

1) Lancaster Catholic snuck out with a victory Friday night over Anneville Cleona when they won 14-13. Anneville Cleona decided to go for the 2 point play rather then try to go to overtime. Great effort by Anneville Cleona, but the 2 point play fell incomplete and Lancaster Catholic improved to 7-0 on the year.

2) Hempfields win over Wilson this week and Township a few weeks ago cements them as the favorite to win section 1 of LL. Next week challenge against 7-0 Exeter will be a great one as well for them to test how good they are as a team.

3) Central York continues to impress with another win to improve to 6-1 on the year. Great effort by Head Coach Gerry Yonchiuk. After losing Beau Pribula and several key Seniors some felt like Central York might back slide. Not the case for them this year.

4) Delone Catholic started 0-3, but lost to Lancaster Catholic, Trinity Greencastle-Antrim. Those 3 are really good, but they didn’t give up on the season. They kept fighting and have won 4 straight and are now the favorites to win Division 3 of the YAIAA. Great effort by that football team.
