The Jaques Classic high school boys’ and girls’ basketball games took place outside Thursday night at the CYO-MIV Center in Pleasant Plains as the Island’s top seniors showcased their talent.
The games ran simultaneously inside the fenced courts, while fans cheered from the outside of the playing areas.
Both games went down to the wire, much to the delight of everyone.
In girls’ action, the North Shore team edged the South 43-42, after being tied (21-21) at halftime.
South Shore’s Nicolette Onesto, who tallied 25 points (19 at half), was named the MVP.
On the boys’ side, the North Shore defeated the South, 81-78.
Justin Mason of the North was declared the MVP, leading all scorers with 23 points.
The South’s Frank Barbato recorded a team-high 17 points.
