When the “storms A brewing” you can’t take the time to play the long game. You have to get while the clouds are still gathering. Such was the case today in Selinsgrove as the Wildcats visited Selinsgrove to take on the Spartans. The Cats struck quick and often, countering the Spartans scores with a quick trip to the endzone of their own while playing a run stuffing defensive game to take a 33-8 halftime lead, then pulled away just as the skies opened up with 52-20 win.

Both teams exchanged opening drive punts, the Wildcat qb Hassan Brockman started the scoring with a 30 yard scamper. They didn’t get the two but had a quick 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

A big loss on a sack from Brett Grow forced another Spartan Punt. Brockman finished a quick drive to put the Cats up 12-0.

The Spartans gave up their next possession on downs but picked off Brockman in the endzone to halt that drive.  It was a quick but fleeting moment of joy. On their next possession they were forced to punt but Ken Maushardt blocked the punt Grow scooped up the ball and scored. 19-0 Wildcats after the two pointer.

On the ensuing drive the Spartans moved the ball well and got into the endzone with a pass from Christian Regester to Steve Ranck making it a 19-6 game, but again the celebration was short lived. Darius Wade took the kickoff and took it straight to the house for a 27-8 Wildcat lead.

With under a minute to play the Wildcats defense came up big getting a nice interception at the back of the endzone.  It took just three plays for the Wildcats to essentially put the game away. Brockman hit Elliot Walker on a 37 yard bomb to the endzone giving the visitors a comfy 33-8 lead at the break.

The Spartans scored to open the second half on a Regester to Gabe Regester Td pass but again the Cats countered.  Sweeting ran the ball in from 4 yards out. As the storm rolling in during the fourth quarter the Spartans scored again but Brockman slammed the door shut with another long Td run. With about 2 minutes remaining the officials called the game complete as the skies opened up.
